I’m replacing about 2′ of roofing deck at eves and also rafter tails inside of soffits were split and some rotted. If I scab on new tails, can I cut off the rotted and split tails that extend beyond the top plate flush at the birds mouth? New tails will extend about 9″ beyond top plate for facia and soffit and about 2′ up rafter towards peak.
