I’ve bought a house with a screen-in deck that has an unsightly metal roof. I would like to replace this metal roof with a regular shingle roof that would tie into my existing roof. I would like this new roof to cover a 10 x 30 area and have electricity for lights/fans.
My question is what is the best/cost effective way to have this done? Should i hire a designer to draw this out first or forego the designer and just hire a general contractor to do the whole thing.

It seems to me that a competent GC can handle this for you. Most cities require the GC to draw and submit plans for the job anyhow. These plans will be reviewed by the building dept to be sure that what is proposed will work.
