Is there a way to resize multiple photos at once, say 30 photos in a folder for example. They are all around 2Mb each and I would like to make them smaller to post on a photo hosting site. I tried batch conversion on Irfanview but had no luck.

PhotoShop has some kind of "batch" processing feature for doing that very thing. I have not used that feature.
I believe Paint Shop Pro (by JASC) has a batch mode, too. I haven't used it yet but I have seen it in the toolbar.

The toolset that came with my Fuji has a batch conversion feature. Reached from the File tab, I believe.

Sounds like you weren't using Irfan correctly. I just tried the Batch conversion and it worked great, although the first time I used it, I didn't find it all that intuitive.
When you open the Batch Conversion, you should:
Find the images you want to convert in the Look in: (Filename) box at the top center.
When you have found the filenames you want to process, you must then highlight them. Then drag and drop them into the large Input files box on the left.
You must then pick the Output directory from the box on the right middle. This is where you want your converted files to go. I like to put them in a different file so that it doesn't get too confusing with the filenames.
In the Work as box, you should click on Batch conversion
Below that, you must pick your Output format from the many choices available in the box. JPEG is always a good choice.
You then have to click on the Options button to determine how much compression you want. You can adjust the slide bar to determine how much smaller you want the compressed images.
That should be it. The next thing to do is click on the Start button on top middle next to the Input files box. The time it takes to convert depends on how many files need converting.
Once the conversion is done, you can open the output file you created where you sent the converted files. They should be there waiting for you.
hope this helps......

I use google's Picasa (free) exclusively - it does the batch resize easily - just alt click them, hit export in the lower right corner, verify your final size, and it's done.
