Anybody have any experience with Sunsetter retractable awnings. I’ve gotten prices ranging from $1100 for a Sunsetter awning all the way up to $3200 for a Durasol awning. Size and features are “apples to apples” however everyone, except Sunsetter, includes installation.
When the manufacturer reps ask me what other brands I am considering they they always groan when I say Sunsetter and state they are the bottom of the barrel. I would greatly appreciate anybody’s experience or insight in to the quality of different brands.
Thanks
Matt

I have installed one Sunsetter. That thing is damn slick. I believe the one I put in is twelve feet wide and extends out ten feet, motorized. Hit the remote and out it goes, stop it whereever you want. I only installed it a couple of months ago, but my sense (what little sense I have) of it is that the materials used are high quality.
When I asked about awnings here leading up to that install, the Sunsetter got good reviews.
If you have the eight vertical inches of wall space, or a level soffit to mount it to then installation is extremely easy. I was dealing with a sloped soffit so it was a pain in the butt.
It did require a second person to help lift it onto the brackets and to adjust the slope.
Having said all of that, I don't like it much. It looks weird sticking out all that way with no support. Also, I don't feel it creates a nice outdoor space...I feel a bit claustophobic with the slope. Then there is the weather problems. Be sure you have it rolled up if it starts raining (or if there are strong winds).
If you are using it to keep the sun out of the interior of the house, I think it is a good solution. If you are trying to create outdoor space, I would go with something else. I think the Sunshade product looks good in the brochures (only place I've seen it). Not familier with Durasol.

Good morning,
I used to own a sign + awning shop . . . retractable awnings made by ' Eastern Awning Systems Inc ' ( Watertown, CT. 800 / 274-9218 ) are very high quality - they're designed for commercial applications.
Thanks for the input. From what I've found so far the Sunsetter price is untouchable. That's what has me slightly worried. Thanks again for the suggestion.

Have you looked at Shadetree brand of sun shades? I looked at several options and went with them... the system is good from my point of view. I can try to post a pic later. http://www.shadetreecanopies.com
Shadetree!!! What did I say??? Sunshade?? Geez.
I meant Shadetree!!
At least I've already alluded to what little sense I have....

Does Shadetree manufacture a lateral arm awing? I looked at their website and it appears that all of their products require a fixed frame to remain over the deck.

That is my understanding, yes.
