…on a 40 yr old forced air gas furnace? my parents have a cabin in the colorado mountains (nothing fancy- and built loooong before such things became trendy and $$$) and over the years they’ve put up with the occasional pilot light outage- for whatever reason.
anybody know of anybody who makes an electronic igniter w/ automatic relight that can be reasonably retrofitted to something like this? i’m short on particulars (make, model, etc) and don’t remember that much about the unit- i was last there maybe ten years ago. i’m certain it doesn’t have a line voltage thermo- which means 12v? definitely not any sort of new mV system, that’s for sure.
thanks,
mitch

I'm not aware that there's a retro for a furnace that's 40 years old. Most don't make it to 20. I would check it for leaks before doing anything else- could be the cause of the pilot light going out- wind blows into the chimney, leak causes air flow to blow pilot out, leak CO into house, etc. Depending on where you are, you may or may not be able to legally install your own furnace but I bought one online for my rental unit for less than $700 (70K BTU).With a little work on the gas feed to line up, connecting to the chimney and making a sheet metal transition, it works great. Very small footprint, too- much smaller than I thought it would be.
