Hello everyone. I am about to send plans for a new house to get the foundation and septic system reviewed and approved by an engineer. The plans are for a 1 1/2 story house with a full basement. The location in southcentral Colorado, elevation about 7400′. Three sliding glass doors will be on the south facing wall. One each for the dining room, family room and master bedroom. We were planning on radiant hw heating with the tubing attached under the subfloors. I’ve read many threads in Breaktime about radiant floor heating. Now I’m thinking that a option to the full basement would be to have the dining, family and master bedroom on slab with the tubing embedded in the slab. These rooms essentially cover the south side of the house. The north side would then be over a full basement. I certainly would likethoughts and opions on having a slab under the south side of the house as a means to better capture and hold heat from the sun as well as from the radiant floor hw heat. If this all seem like a good option, what thickness should the slab be? The slab would be insulated below with say 2″ styrafoam. Thanks.
