forgot to add : NO snow load, concrete supports on ends no glue unless on site
more to add; 17 ft rafters( aprox)(2 by) 24 inch on center 12 ft ceiling fiberglass roofing
What does ";no glue unless on site" mean? You are going to need a glue lam at least.
hello mike I'll be way out of range of the usual glue lam. I might have a chance at glue and screw depending on thickness. ?? what size beam w x t for 40 ft. ?
You are not going to be able to do this with a site built beam. It would take a 6 x 30 engineered glue lam. Perhaps you could do it with a site built truss, but that would require a structural engineer. Your best bet is probably put a post in the middle.
Thanks mike, Looks like i'll go to option 2: A steel I-beam Any ideas in that direction ?
Mike, Found a pole barn with steel trusses that will fill the bill.... thanks
