Hi All,
I am re-roofing my house and replacing sheathing as part of the job.
When using full sheets of sheathing I end up with a 2-2.5 inch gap from center on either side of the ridge beam. The original builders had put a 1 inch strip of plywood to reduce the gap opening.
I am a DIY, so could easily be wrong, but the 1in strip at the top near the ridge doesn’t seem like good practice to me. Doesn’t provide a seamless nailing surface and isn’t very strong. How should I remedy this? The ridge vent manufacturer that I plan to use wants 1-1.5″ gap on either side at most.
I can only think to put a small strip between the second to last course and last course of full sheets of sheathing or rip two pieces of sheathing one at 24in wide and one at 25 in wide to take up the gap.
I can take pictures if they’d help.
Any thougths appreciated.

overthinking maybe
Are there any fasteners in your roofing system, other than in the underlayment to be that go that close to the ridge? Probably not so what could a narrow sheathing strip hurt? Only issue I could imagine is if the vent fasteners landed in the crack beteen the narrow strip and the last sheathing run, guess I should have said that first..
Just An FYI
I had my roof reshingled a few years ago. The sheathing is 1/2" ply. The original builder had used 3" strips between the last 2 full sheets of sheathing. Well, on this most recent reshingling job the roofers broke several of these 3" strips. I found the breaks after they were done and had to fix them myself from the underside of the roof. Just something to consider.
