Ridgid belt/oscilatiing spindle sander
Saw a Rigid combination stationary belt / oscillating spindle sander today at H.D.
Anyone else know anything about this tools?
At 5 amps. it seems it would be underpowered.
Mildly interested at this point for uses in small mostly home shop but would also be used on jobs for custom trim.

I have one of the last ones before they went orange. I like it, have not used it much. Made middle grandaughter a play table and storage benches. Was real handy to clean up some radiused corners. I was only working with 3/4 ply though, not sure you could shove a big chunk of oak into it and expect it to eat it quick.
I've had mine for about a year now, and love it. It makes quick work of smoothing curved surfaces and the oscillating action eliminates the sanding lines I got with a drum sander in the drill press.
My only issue is sanding large pieces. Since this is a benchtop tool, the table surface area is limited. When I'm working with large pieces, I have to set up temporary supports - or figure out how to grow a couple of additional hands. - lol
Mine is two years old, bearings have gone out. Their "Lifetime Warranty" is not even remotely so. No more Ridgid tools in our shop.
I got one. It's fine for general quick licks on stuff. My buddy has one and he crafts Archery Bows outta some nasty composites and epoxies..the dust port is handy for that.
I mostly use mine for sharpening ( not hooked to a vacuum obviously) and some deburring. I bought a asst of belts from Klingspor 60-320 grits. I still am on the drums that came with it, but will try to remember to get some.

I have one and like it a lot. It is not industrial, but perfect for occasional use. I can use my existing 3" x 24" sanding belts on it, too!

Thanks to all who replied. I think I may just spring for onew in the not to distant future."Poor is not the person who has too little, but the person who craves more."...Seneca
You're right about it being underpowered. I have one of the early gray ones. I have to use a pretty light touch on the belt. Don't know about the newer ones, but the belt tracking really sux too. On the other hand, the oscillating spindle really shines.
I am happy with mine. I also bought up a bunch of the Ryobi sanding cylinders on sale at HD at various times. Most of them fit.
