I’ve been thinking about a “multi” tool for a few years, but have no use for cordless tools in my situation. So this caught my eye:
http://www.ridgid.com/Tools/JobMax-3-Amp-Multi-Tool-Starter-Kit/EN/index.htm
Apparently it’s been around for a couple of years, but until I stumbled upon it this week in the Big Box, I had no idea.
Price is about $50 more than a Dremel, RockWell, Bosch, or other Fein knock-off, but I think the switchable head feature adds some value.
Anyone have an opinion to share?
Thanks.

As rigid has a lifetime warranty on everything except the battery, I say go for it and let us know how you like it. HD has a great return policy too... I've returned tools after using them saying I just didn't like it. It goes over better when you have the tool you are replacing it with in your hand already!

Which of course this one doesn't have.
I've got a $100 gift card to burn, so I think I'll get it.
The tool accepts "standard" Fein-compatible blades, which seems like a good thing to me.
As for heads, I think I'll start with the "multi tool" head (included with the "starter kit") and the impact driver head (another $49).
I'll report back to the forum about the performance. Most reviews I've seen about these heads have been positive.
BTW, another advantage of this system is the ability to lock the heads into 90 degree rotation increments. So if you're driving a screw or sheering a pipe at an awkward angle, a 90 degree shift may help.
Thanks for the input.

rigid job max
I have used the tool for about 2 years now without problem
I use the Fein blades with it. The tool is vibrating more than the Fein but it is bearable.
Fein reduced the price at the local HD to the point that I would have spend the few extra $ for a better tool quality.
I bought the Rigid as an open box item with the sanding tool missing for $ 50.--

That's interesting. Does the Fein tool send less vibration to your hand?
Have you found the 90-180-270 degree factor useful?
I've only used the ocillating tool. Have you used any of the others? The drill and impact heads are interesting to me.
Thanks.
