All, I’m a novice (ignorant is a better word) roofer. Several editions ago, in Fine Homebuilder, an article discussed insulating a roof with 4″ of poli…..(can’t remember rest of spelling) rigid insulation for an increased “R” value. I’m hoping someone out there can educate me on the appropriate nails/screws to use for this project. I plan to scrape it clean before I lay down new shingles. I thought about putting 1″-2″ of the poli insulation on the old roof deck with 1/2″ OSB then #30 paper and then the shingles. In addition, do I need a thermal/moisture barrier? Any guidance will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I don't recall the exat article, but I use foil faced polyisoanurate when doing the interior of rafters, usually new work, but I use the dow eps foam when exterior roof surfaces.
The extruded is closed cell and is not affected by moisture
Use lag headed screws from GRKCanada for fastening
