Rigid Insulation for the Exterior

I’m planning on sheathing the exterior of my home with 3/8″ plywood, then possibly at least 1″ of rigid insulation. The exterior walls will be 2 x 6, appropriately insulated for a Canadian climate.
Is the rigid insulation a worthwhile addition ? If so, how thick ? How does it attach to the exterior sheathing ? Any issues with stucco application ?
Your help is appreciated.
thanks!
*Note: this is a repost of one I did yesterday. I apologize if I am repeating myself, but I couldn’t find my first post.

For cold climates, the foam belongs on the inside of the wall
