We just bought a 48 bungalow on a vented cralspace in climate zone 4 marine. The existing insulation in the joists is power backed r8, and is falling apart. I’d like to seal the crawl space and mechanically vent. The quotes I’ve gotten for spray foam are prohibitive so I am looking at a diy option.
Hoping for some feedback on my idea:
1. R14 comfortbatt attached to the inside of the foundation walls
2. 20mm vapour barker covering. Floor and wrapped up the walls over the Rockwell and sealed to the sill plate with acoustic sealant a d staples.
3. Joists bays filled with ridgid foam and spray foam around the edges.
We will be residing in due time so I can correct the exterior sill plate to foundation connection at that time. But this seems to me like a budget friendly solution.
alternately, we could do the rock wool on the inside of the vapour barrier, but not sure how to keep it in place without picturing the barrier. Ideas? Any reason why I’d want it on the inside?

Lots of good content on this topic in the magazine. The best article might be this one: https://www.finehomebuilding.com/2015/05/13/creating-a-sealed-crawlspace
Bill Rose also has had a couple of good short pieces on the topic over the years. Search on the main site.
