Romex thru HVAC Return Filter Box???

I was checking the filters on my new HVAC install and discovered the contractor had built one of the return plenums (located in the bedroom closet) around a run to a wall outlet. its sealed to the return box with Mastic. The doesnt seem correct or proper to me. Does anyone know what specific NEC Code section pertains to this?
Thanks
John

yes here you can have alot of things (wire runs ect) in a return... as long as it is sealed... thats code... a non issue... it's the same air as in the rest of the house
P
Article 300-22, wiring in ducts, plenums and other air handling spaces (I have a 1999 edition here at home, I can't say for sure if it's the same section number in newer versions but I believe it is.) At any rate, the short answer is the wiring needs to be either in metallic conduit or else rated for plenum use.
IIRC, romex can run across a duct but not through it lengthways. Not sure about having the box in the duct.
