Novice home owner here.
I have a 28yo house here in NC. I recently purchsed a new HVAC to be installed in the attic.
When doing the pre-installation measurements, the HVAC contractor noted that for the previous installation, a contractor had moved some framing about an inch (to 17″) at the bottom on ether side to make enough room to get the HVAC equipment to the right spot. Sort of a subtle upside down “v.” I never noticed it before.
Is that a huge problem? Doesn’t seem to make sense to move it back to 16″. Sort of blocking the new HVAC in place. Can’t imagine it would impact the structural integrity.
Any thoughts? I’m thinking “leave well enough alone”

Pictures would help immensely...
If your roof was framed with trusses rather than stick-framed with joists, rafters & rafter ties, yes it would impact the structural integrity.
No, 1” will not matter also most homes have 2’ OC spacing also 16” OC spacing is probably over kill and NC has very low snow load so you’re good. You’ll see a variance of 1” with some shotty framers out there too.
Without pics it's hard to determine if it's the truss SPACING that was modified (I doubt it because the framing would have been complete at HVAC install) OR if one or more members of individual truss(es) had been removed and reinstalled to accommodate the HVAC. If it's the latter then the modification needs to be carefully evaluated with regard to truss geometry and for the connection of the moved member(s) to the rest of the truss.
