Help!!…can anybody help me with the optimum roof overhangs for incorporating passive solar heating/cooling principals? I am at 33 degrees latitude (Dallas area), the height of my windows will be 30″ and the top of the window will be only 6″ below the bottom of the overhang.

the proper overhang is went the sun hits the bottom of the window at 5 pm.
What time of the year?
There are lots of books about the best overhangs for given latitudes. Maybe there is even info online. I found a lot of good stuff at the public library looking under "passive solar heating". You, of course, want the sun in in the winter, but not in the summer. Since you are pretty far south, shouldn't need a very wide overhang.
here in KY ( the jelly state) we use retractable soffits...geeze, whats wrong with the rest of the world?

I don't know enough to answer your question, but the person who does also needs to know the compass direction, because the sun is high when it's in the South, but lower in the East and West.
