i just started a metal roof on a 160 square building. the first section of the roof is 132 feet long by 34 feet up. the metal that was sent is 21’6″ and 13’6″. we got the roof all prept up and squared for the first sheet of metal. everything was going good until the top piece of metal started going off line. we never noticed until later. is there a way to straighten out the metal before we get to the end of the roof. i’m open for all sugustions.

I never do one without putting down layout lines before starting to place material.
How far off are you? I suppose that you are likely to need to remove fasteneres from a few sheets to re-attach. Won't take too long to do.
Metal ribbed roofing can be stretched or crowdedan eighth or maybe 3/16" on each sheet without a problem, but you need to be sure the lap is setting right and force the tension into the middle ribs. If the lap rib isn't right, it will be more likely to leak.
Also, I hope you have the laps right. I see far too many people just start laying this stuff without lkooking at the instructions and end up with the female side on top. That also encourages leaks.
I'm curious why the length was broken in two. It can be ordered up to 60' long tho' anything over fourty is hard to deliver and to handle and it creates more problems with thermal movement. I think the longest I have used is 44' on a fire station and 38' on a hiway dept barn.

My method for keeping it all running right was to use a pair of vice grips on the lap at top and at bottom to clamp to the previous sheet. Then I adjusted the sheet to be parrallel to the layout lines, tacking with one fastener at top and at bottom before screwing the whole thing down[edited]

OK, Before fastening (screwing) the whole thing down.
Is that better?
Must've been a Freudian screwup

your right pif, didn't mean to insult you. i' running long on top
surprised me. I would have expected it to be running long in the middle because of the stacked lap effect there.
So what you do on monday, is you clamp the sheet to the previous one, and then crowd the top over that way on the far edge away fromn the lap. Do it only an eighth or so for each sheet and eventually it will catch up, if nothing else goes out of whack.
But I really think the first thing to do is to look back and see if any one of those laps is off and wrong. If it is, then you should loosen backj and take care oif that problem first. I'm not criticizing you in implying that this could be so. It just happens sometimes..
