I am building a new house in northern Michigan and must soon decide on roofing shingles. I am debating between CertainTeed Landmark 50 and GAF Timberline Ultra. I am interested in not only in quality but also color uniformity. Any suggestions?

we try to stick with Certainteed.. but a lot of it depends on your regional distribution.. and your local supplier..
most mfr's used to warn against mixing lots to avoid color mis-match...
as far as I know, Certainteed no longer warns about that... we've had no trouble with color not being consistent... we've had no trouble with Certainteeed about anything...
but again... we're in the New England area.... most of our shingles that we use come out of North Carolina

I've been involved in warranty claims on both brands. The Certainteed problem was handled swiftly and to the satisfaction of the homeowner. The GAF problem was never resolved to anyone's satisfaction. I've also noticed GAF's to be inconsistant in height from one end to the other. Price being equal, I would go with Certainteed.
