Hi all,
My brand new bostitch roofing nailer ( RN46) is giving me trouble. Right out of the box with bostitch nails it’s not feeding or firing properly. It will shoot a few, then will just shoot air when fired, and occasionally the firing pin will get stuck all the way out, and it has jambed more than a few times.
I’m in new england and have been working in temps in the low 20’s. I suspect this could be part or all of the problem. Do nailers need something other than winter grade oil in the winter? Or did I perhaps get a lemon? Thanks for any advice.

If you think it is the cold bring it into the garage or shop, and letit warm up then fire some nails into scrap see if that helps.
If you can tell that it is actually not feeding right, youmight have a lemon or you might have the cup height in the wrong place for the length nail.
I am not sure about the nailer but I know the framer from bostitch is kind of tricky to select the right cup slot.
Do you hear any air leaking?
I bought a bostitch brad nailer and a stapler twice, both had similar jaming problems and air leaking at the trigger valve. I returned them both times.

Thanks for the reply.
The screws all are tight; don't hear any leaking, just the blast of air when you bump it. I'll double check the magazine is set for the proper nails.
It just seems to me that IF it's the cold weather, shouldn't a brand new gun work ok in mildly cold weather? I'd rather not be shingling a roof at this time of year, but that should be my decision...I suppose I could go back to hand nailing.
I would think it would proably work okay in the cold. Yeah I try not to work outside at all in the cold weather months. So I can't really say I have been in your spot especially roofing. If it is brand new you miht take it back and trade it for another you might have a lemon.
The only other thing I can think of is there might be some moisture in the hose that has frozen and may be keeping adequate air from getting to the nailer. Just a guess.
Any way we are bumping the thread and some one else may have some advice.Webby
What's your air pressure at the gun?

The compressor was set to about 110 psi, with 50' of 1/4" hose.
try heating the hose up-- you might have a partial ice blockage in the hose
