Has anyone figured out how to roof a turret with architectural shingles so the results are consistent and the lines straight?

Prescriptive codes don't address the connection at less common angles, so base the connection off more typical ones using bolts, structural screws, blocking, and steel tension ties.

.. i'd use my laser level to establish reference lines.. then snap course lines every 5th course...
a water level would work equally well...
*since each face of the turret is so small,I would snap one base line for the first course and simply scale with my hatchet gauge or gun gauge after that.Once I got high enough up the turret that one course = 1 shingle or less I wouldn't even scale 'em.
*nhhI've slated many turret type surfaces. The trick is in the layout. All you need is a story pole attached to the finial of your turret. I use a long lag screw in the top of the turret and an eye bolt in the end of the story pole. Once it's attached you can lay out your shingle courses on it and swing it to all sides of the turret. Cut the story pole off as you work up the roof and it gets in your way.Good luckTerry
*I'm with Stephen on this one.NO lasers needed up there!blue
