I’m in the process of repairing my deck made of construction redwood and treated wood. Most of the rotten pieces (the deck is, I think, 22 years old) will be replaced, but in a few spots I’d like to leave mostly-sound pieces of redwood in place and just treat some flaky edges. (The treated stuff seems to be all OK.)
Several years back there was quite a bit of discussion about using “rot consolidator”, but when I ask at local paint outlets I just get dumb looks. (Was hard enough to find some wood “preservative” that wasn’t simply glorified varnish.) Is “rot consolidator” still available, is there another, more readily recognized name for it, is it considered worth the effort, and what are some good brands?
And where might I find it — we have, locally, Home Depot, Menard’s, Lowes, Fleet-Farm, Farm and Home, Sherwin Williams, and in independent paint store that carries mostly Benjamin Moore stuff.
