When you say AWPA 303 Rough Sawn Siding I am assuming you mean T-111.
It is slightly easier to register T-111 to the next sheet for alignment. The groove on the smartpanel is oversized so you have to visually register its location. The T-111 you just push it till it butts and your home.
The Smart panels seem to crown a little on the groove side as well. Maybe and 1/8 from end to center to end.
The dust is also nasty from the smart panel.
The smart panel is lighter.
The smartpanel is empregnated with borate for termite resistance.
The smart panel is also $20 a sheet cheaper at my yard for 5/8".

How often do you want to be repainting the house?
Plywood siding doesn't hold up in terms of paint as well as the manufactured siding.
