Roughsawn 12″x 3/4″ is it possible?
I’ve got a fun one! Going to skin the posts and beams of a pre-existing structure. H.O. wants the big beam without seams look. most of the beams are 11+” tall and wide. I was thinking of starting with roughsawn 2×12’s and milling them down to 5/8″x 12 which is gonna be an expensive bitch. Then, I was going to miter together at the corners to eliminate much of the flat seams. I was wondering if any of you have any knowledge of the possibilities of getting roughsawn that is already milled to 3/4″ or smaller x 12″x 12-14′? This would greatly reduce my labor. However, I am thinking this might reduce the integrity of the roughsawn pine too much to make it viable, hence the reason I’ve never seen it, but I do not know. Any other ideas or a whole new route even would be appreciated. Thanks Folks! I’ll try to post pics as I get them.

integrity no problemas...
Pine is certainly capable of being used @ 3/4" x 12". Getting it 14' long and rough on one side would be tough in my world. local mills don't saw to that dimension hardly ever and if they did you'd be on your own to dry it. And I live in Arkansas which produces a lot of SYP.
The only easy option to trim a beam with a rough sawn board around here is to get western cedar which is readily available in 1x12 up to 20'. Typically a 1x12 cedar is 11.25 to 11.75 wide and rough on one face.
