Looking for a good router. Perferably one that has plunge capability. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?
Thanks in advance for the advice.
Thanks,
Barney

I have about 10 routers.. They make various routers for various applications. What do you plan to do with your router? For heavy duty work I like my Porter cable #7530 plunge and my Bosch # 1615EVS plunge. For laminate work I like my Porter Cable #7301. I have a Bosch 1615 EVS mounted perminately to a router table. I also like my Bosch 1606 and 1604 for medium work.
Thanks for responding. As for the work load, I don't anticipate it being too heavy. I have a delta shaper table that I use for a lot of stuff. I was more looking for a high HP, plunge router that will last. I like the PC and Hitachi brands.
Thanks,Barney
Those are all good choices... I don't know much about the Hitachi router. I have a Hitachi right angle cordless that is an excellent tool. I don't think you can go wrong with either one. I would like to have the Hitachi slider.. But my 2 sliders are still in good working order. And I am about at the end of my tool buying days. :-))
I have the Hitachi 10" compound miter. Its "ok". The handle and safety switch are sort of awkard. Other than that its a good saw. I just bought the 12" Rigid Compound with the lazer. I love it so far.
Thanks,Barney
The Hitachi plunge feature can be a PITA.
The Bosch 3-1/4 hp is awesome. Get the EVS and soft start.
Who ever invented work didn't know how to fish....
I too am looking for a new router with the race down to Bosch with the 2 bases vs the DW with the two bases. I like the idea of having one base permanently in a table but I am leaning towards the Bosch- evs and soft start.......
Any feedback ??? ......My DW says I'm a tool head with a sawdust brain !!
Do yourself a favor and pass on the DeFault...

I really like the Bosch 3 1/4. I saw that at a show once but didn't have enough money to go back and get it. LOL!
Look into any of the 1600 series. They are awesome. Then there is Milwaukee and Festool. That's good stuff too.
Bosch is running a heavy duty series of specials at http://www.amazon.com/bosch (1-800-635-5140) free shipping and no tax.
Why is it that there are never enough commas in the check book???

This is always a good time of year for me. I get my annual review at work and am able to sell back 80 hrs of vacation time at the new salary. Its like getting a nice bonus right before the tool show. LOL!!
You need help...
Be right there....
For a cut of the tool haul of course...

Help with what? The fact that I don't take vacations? LOL!! Ex-wife was never a joy to vacation with so I sort of got in the habit of not taking them. I'm slowly starting to change that.
Or help with the fact that I have this "found" money burning a serious hole in my pocket. LOL!!
TOOLS!!!
I love buying tools and playing with them at the shows. I can come up with lots of help putting out the fire... Buying tools is better than a vacation.
Have an EX of my own.. So no help there...
An excursion, help for a fellow BT'er or a hiest can be mounted around here faster than a heart beat.
BTW Amazon is offering 20$ off Bosch purchases over 199$. Print up some of their offers and take that ammo with you. Might help ya save some bucks that you can use to get more tools.

The show I go to with my Dad is in Edision, NJ. Its pretty big. The prices are good too. We've noticed that you have to walk around the entire show once and take notes of who has what and at what price. Its not uncommon to find that two authorized sales reps have differnent prices. Then you take the flyers from the various tool stores and negotiate the prices.
On another note, my local HD said they will not match Internet prices. They said they can't compete with the pricing. Yeah, the HD corporate giant that has run all the local hardware stores out of business near me can't compete with the big bad internet. LOL!
I've already started to print out various pricing from the web to take with me.
I stumbled upon a website that will find the lowest prices for tools on the internet. Its called http://www.toolseeker.com I went there yesterday. Its pretty cool.
Good hunting Barney..

i have several routers from little laminate trimmers to a 3 horse hitachi with a couple of porter cable 690s in between and a couple of cheapies thrown in
the 690's are a great medium duty router and for real heavy work the hitachi is great
caulking is not a piece of trim
Get the PC combo, fixed and plunge base, have your cake and eat it. Can never have too many tools.Let's not confuse the issue with facts!
Thanks. I appreciate it. I'm trying to put together a list of tools that I want to buy at the Wood working/tool show that my dad and I got to every January.
Thanks,Barney
Bosch 1600 series. The sky isn't the limit...
