I’m trying to route a groove on the bottom side of my kitchen cabinets in order to run under cabinet lighting wire across the base and to the corner where the cabinet bottom meets the wall.
The base of my router stops me about 2 inches short of being flush up to the wall. Any thoughts on how to route a groove across the cabinet bottom all the way flush to the wall?
Replies
A. Offset router attachment.
B. Gouge chisel.
C. Multitool.
D. Dremmel.
Assume you mean the upper wall cabinets.
Couple options:
--take the cabinet off the wall and route without obstruction
--Use a dremel tool or similar rotary tool to complete the trench.
--use a vibrating saw to cut a notch.
--get busy with a chisel and hammer
How thick is the bottom of your cabinet that is letting you route a groove? are you concerned about the integrity of the cabinet with a notch cut out?
thanks to you both. Great suggestions. Will be so helpful when i get around to this project in the next 6 months to 2 years! :)
This doesn't make sense to me. At most, cabinet bottoms are 3/4 inch thick and a groove deep enough for even 14/3 romex would have to be at least 1/2 inch, which would ruin the cabinets.
Ah, I've been in a similar situation before! When I was setting up some shelving in my home office, I encountered a similar challenge with my router. It just wouldn't reach all the way to the wall, leaving me scratching my head.
What worked for me was using a router edge guide. It's like a little accessory that attaches to your router and helps keep your cuts straight and precise. With the edge guide in place, I was able to extend the reach of my router and get that groove right up to the wall without any gaps.
