Has anyone heard of or used a router bit to install weatherstripping? I’m doing trim around 6 garage doors, all with Azek.
I’d like the weatherstripping piece to be Azek too. The garage door guys left a box full, but it’s made out of finger joint material.
Somewhere I think I’ve seen something about routing a slot and slipping in a piece of weatherstripping………just can’t remember where.

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming
WOW!!! What a Ride!
Forget the primal scream, just ROAR!!!
I just built some windows using some weatherstripping I got from the fist link posted. It's a "barbed" style that pushes into a groove. They sell a router bit, but I just ripped grooves in my stops on my table saw. Worked like a charm.
I imagine you could do the same. Check out their site, and see which strip works best for your app.

The barbed stuff is pretty forgiving, you can use an 1/8" carbide or steel straight or spiral, a winged bearing guided slot cutter, a table saw with about a .100" thick kerf or any of the bits sold as "Special"..basically the density of your azek will decide the groove tolerance and even a rotozip can cut the goove with the standard sold zip bit for wood and plastic.
BTW,I just saw an Azek type garage door weatherstrip at Lowes, the kind with the wide flap not the compressible bulb.
I own the Rescource Cons. Tech router doo-hicky and man, the vacume attach makes it really shine over other ways, besides the angled guide. Pricy tho' I think I paid 290.00.

You might also ask your local lumber yard if they have vinyl or PVC pre-made garage door weather stripping.
We can find it locally.
I told my customer that I could do the job they wanted if I had the RCT router, and proposed splitting the cost with them. They went for it, so now I've got the tool. It works great. Really easy to use, really forgiving, lots of different w-strip profiles/sizes.
I've worked that same kind of deal with a few different customers, but it only feels right if it's an oddball tool.
I got my palm nailer that way on a re-engineer-and-cut-a-truss skylight job, where I needed to lie on my belly in the attic, using the tool at arms length to fill Simpson nail plates with a few dozen hanger nails.
Any of those jobs where you just can't do it without this tool, get the customer to chip in
A special router bit that I'll need -- that goes right in, 100%, as a direct-cost line item.
But don't try to get a customer to go in with you on a Skilsaw or a hammer!

Thanks for all your responses. I'm heading to Lowes in the morning. If they don't have what I need, I'll order some stuff online. Thanks again Rod
