IMERC is a builder, looking at a house, so that is what the pictures are of.<G>
Besides, Ruby is not photogenic. I think that he was afraid for his camera.
IMERC is really, really a super nice fellow, for those that don't know him. He is also naturally an excellent dog trainer, putting me, that have trained dogs for over 30 years, at shame.
You have seen some of the work he does and it is impressive, the detail and workmanship is incredible.
Someone should some day get a BT crew together and build a house with the kind of workmanship those here show.
On of those pictures that IMERC so helpfully took and posted for me (my computer doesn't seem to let me reduce the size enough for me to do so), you can see some of the details I asked about on BT. The whole house is handicap accessible, so the countertoop in the kitchen is wheelchair height. That also makes it nice for the rest of us, not to have to sit perched up there.
The diamond shaped backsplash, courtesy of the tile layers, who did an excellent job, has our ranch brand etched in it. Such little details are in several places and are really nice.
The shower/bathtub have the fittings on the same wall, the shower head on a vertical sliding arm and reaches around so it can be used in the bath also.
Can't say much else that the pictures don't show.
Thanks, IMERC!
Are all the floors tile?
I like the mirror/medicine cabs in the master bath. Are they adjustable for HC use?
How did the tile setter etch the logo in the tile?
Whenever you are asked if you can do a job, tell'em "Certainly, I can!" Then get busy and find out how to do it. T. Roosevelt
All floors are tile, since I am allergic to most carpets and what they store, grow in them, no matter how carefully you clean them, such as dust, pollens and mites.
The tile setter cut the brand out with his tile saw. Neat.
Will try to post a close-up if I can get my files small enough to post.
Good call on those cabinets. I am 4' 11" and can hardly see myself in them! When something is not specified clearly and written down, such get's missed, even if it was spoken about before. Oh, well, portable make-up/shaving mirrors are just as good and the back of the bathroom door has a full sized mirror anyway.
Cabinets and toilets for now are regular height, to be adjusted/changed later if necessary. HC is for a possible need later, so the builder cut corners on what was not absolutely necessary to do now. All is blocked for rails, but only in the shower he installed them, etc.
Also, the doors in the cabinets have knobs that look great but I now think that those half moon handles, as in the old house, are more practical, since clothing seems to hang on knobs a lot. I need to learn to keep more distance.<G>

Wow, I'm impressed. I was just wondering why "we" hadn't heard from you of late, the reason why is clear--you're resting from all that work.Occupational hazard of my occupation not being around (sorry Bubba)

Yeah yeah... we've heard that one before.

Imerc is just being selfish.

Hey, Imerc ! So how much is it going to cost for a peek at the good ones ?
We hear all this talk about a ranch... I wanna see Ruby wrasslin a sheep, or branding a chicken, or shovelin horse by-product er sumptin...

Didn't see any sheep, chickens or goats.... Or CAG so there's proof that she hasn't any...
She's got the horses trained to use an area that's self cleaning so that's out too...
She asked that I not take any pictures of her and respected her wishes..

Ruby is getting too old to wrassle anything larger than a mouse, I think, although I am still somehow managing to carry #75 bales of hay to feed and #80 sacks of concrete mix around, carefully, to set post with.
Anyone else noticed that building a house takes a few years away from you, about one for every month they are at it? My hair was already gray, or I would blame it on that.
You look like a silver fox from here.
;)
Yes, it does. And it wears like that on the contractors when they have unreasonable and demanding customers. :) I am proud of you for the way you handled this job yourself.

WOW! When did you come by and take it?<G>
Sorry to have missed you.
I finally got to mow this evening, for the first time and the landscapers did an excellent job, the grass grew thick and beautiful, with very few weeds.
Too late in the day for pictures, but maybe tomorrow, if the sun shines, I can.
Had a former builder, that was in that Auston development a few years ago, where they built all those mansions, come by and he really liked it, said such good work was as good in it's simplicity as they did in those multi million homes. Former builder because he said it took big crews, much time, work and stress and his heart started acting up on him so he had to quit.
You fellows watch it, don't let it get to be too much. Take care of your health.
He could not believe I designed it, since I obviously don't know anything about building. I told him I had good help, on BT.<G>
I like it! Thanks for liking it also. I think that IMERC did too.

Yes, and Fine Homebuilding cap to top it off.
Mighty handsome in that outfit, too.:-)
Simple, yet elegant. Looks very liveable. The rafters ( I'm having a senior moment, can't remember their proper name<G>) look great. It's tough to make a homey place, you nailed it! Don't worry, we can fix that later!

No armadillos around here, too far N for them.
That is the silhouette of two running horses, that came from our old barn. We used to train race horses, many years ago.
On the third picture, in the middle of the tile backsplash, the tile man cut our ranch brand in.
You can see it if you look very close. It is made with an upside down W and a bar under. It reads M Bar, came with the first cows in 1910. It is also on the concrete pad corners, branded with the real cow brand, when they were finishing it and on the N gable of the house, made out of pipe, painted black, about 6' by 4 1/2'.
Sun is not wanting to shine that well lately and pictures are not very clear.
I think you ought to change your screen name from Ruby to M Bar ... it has history.

I've meet Imerc, and handsome is not how I would define him, you sure it was actually him that came to your house! :)
Sorry M.

No doubt! A tall, nice gentleman, with a well mannered, patient border collie, in a truck full of tools, talking about building. Fits the description.
I think that he would be someone that would be hard to impersonate successfully.;-)
You got that right about the impersonator part! Dont know how it could be done. Its just that comment on the "handsome" that has me a bit confused. ;)

I like that M-Bar on the end of the house. Is it on the gate at the end of the drive also?
Whenever you are asked if you can do a job, tell'em "Certainly, I can!" Then get busy and find out how to do it. T. Roosevelt
Yes, that M Bar is there and there will be, a little one, hanging under the main entrance gate to the yard, in front, when we get done. I have it already, but have so much else to do first that it will be one of the last things that goes up.
Mike took the fuzzies out of that one picture, but don't know how, since they seemed to be part of the definition of the scan.
I found my scanners settings and made the files smaller there, so maybe I can post attachments now, without having IMERC reduce them for me. The settings were already at a low setting, so that may not make enough difference to work right. Need to go back to work at the sand box a little more.<G>

---"I'm going to have to invite my family over for a visit one of these days."---
Sure, come over. IMERC will vouch for me not biting.<G>
You may be disappointed. This is a practical farm house, not much of that WOW factor so many have in town, with their high entrances into an even higher foyer and then a living room with a floor to ceiling fireplace, some three and four stories high. All full of interesting architectural details to catch your eye.
I saw plenty of such in the Parade of Homes, but they didn't do anything for me as living quarters. A house for me means something more square and of simple, traditional lines, to relax in, not to feel invigorated with all those energizing details some had, although I admire them.
Sounds like my kind of house! Pretty much what we are building too.Kevin Halliburton And with that, the great emporer Oz gently floated away on a curtain of hot air, laughing at the unfortunate ignorance of little people beneath him. But under his breath he cursed that stupid little dog...
You can verify that it was IMERC if the tools were the right colours and had "Bosch" written on them.

Someone should some day get a BT crew together and build a house with the kind of workmanship those here show.
You know, Ruby, that isn't such a bad idea. Much of the design and preliminary work could be done ahead of time. Maybe declare a BT housebuild week? Get everyone to come in from all four corners to put up the house in a week?
I suppose you could even come up with a schedule so that the framing, roofing, dw, etc would know which days to show up on (if they didn't wanna be there all week).
I can remember seeing a video of a Habitat for Humanity house that was built in a record 3.5hours (foundation was probably done ahead of time). I think they used SIP's on the walls, built the roof nearby and craned it into place...and other time saving methods (not sure what they did for mudding/painting).
But your average Habitat house has an army of inexperienced folks and just a few experts. Just imagine if we got an ARMY of experts to show up? Could we get it 80-90% done in a week?
I don't know, maybe one of us should start a new thread with this idea?jt8

Well, I'm a 'muddler' not an expert... but if it wasn't too far away and I was able to schedule it in, I could probably assist the 'experts'.
And maybe if we hooked up with some organization like Habitat, the materials would be provided. But it doesn't HAVE to be a charity house. Just depends on what everybody thinks.
In the fine tradition of barn raising... the BT 'neighbors' get together and raise a house. ;)

All good ideas, but could you maybe build a house that doesn't need painters?
The painters for this house lack a very little on the porch, the house was started January 2, 2004 and I have been in it since August 1 and they have not shown up yet to finish that little bit!!!!!
And, have not we all heard about paint needing to dry?
I would leave painters out of any house that needs to be done ASAP.<G>

Oh, all fine. thanks for asking.
I hope all is well with you also and that you had a good Thanksgiving Day.
Sorry to have missed any posts to me, but my computer keeps freezing on me, so have not been using it that much, mostly stays on, waiting to get over it's regular indigestion, without doing any work.
The weather has been a bear, with 6" of snow every one of the last three weeks and plenty of rain inbetween.
What a way to end the 13 year old drought!
Last year we had a grand total of 3.5" and this year some places already have over 50"!
We are so soggy there is no bottom.
Would you believe that they have not finished this house yet?
Just got the last screen door in Wednesday but the painters have not finished and the builder has not sealed the main doors yet, plus a few little things like the smoke detectors keep going off in the middle of the night some times, a short in them somewhere, etc, etc.
Frustrating! I have a friend building and recommended this builder, who really is a very good one and he is doing hers also.
I hope he get's on the ball on hers better than he did here.
Who said a house is neve finished?<G>

I will let IMERC answer who's that is, but no, sadly, this is a farmhouse in the plains, not a mansion in the mountains.
Will try to get a picture of the outside, but today is very dark and rainy, so will be hard.
Yes, I have been rather too busy to be able to use the computer as much as I was before, when others were doing the work.
Besides, election time is not the best of times to be talking without stepping on some toes, right?<G>
Besides, election time is not the best of times to be talking without stepping on some toes, right?<G>
That's the truth. My wife convinced me that I needed to put a political sticker on my bumper. She said it was important to her that we come out to the neighbors.
Well that's all fine and good but as I drove into a potential clients driveway to give a bid I noticed the yard was full of the other guy's stuff. I was hoping they were in the house and might not notice or care about my little sticker. Wrong
The owner drove up as I was knocking on his door. He informed me he wasn't interested in an estimate from me.
I lost the job but never felt better about putting the sticker on the truck, hope I don't starve.
For the sake of harmony here I'll refrain from saying which presidential hopeful's sticker was on my truck.

He, he, he...and I know why too. Thanks! Such as myself detracts from the nice house, but that is life.<G>
As for IMERC not having anything to do with this house, he is a very modest fellow, in case you have not noticed. Many of his ideas and warnings were taken to heart, as all others were.
I see that he very thoughtfully provided a picture of the outside.
Sorry about the job. I wonder how he would have felt if YOU had turned away and left when you read who he was for, if you had felt that YOU didn't like his job because of the political opinions displayed on his lawn.

You can't always belive what the bumpersticker proclaims. Case in point ; Back when Geo. Wallace was running for president , The preist at our church had many sermons on the eavils of old G.W. Some of the guys decided to adorn his car with a few Wallace for Prez bumper stickers.
By the way I like the House ! I also have no plans for carpet in my house . Hard wood and tile through out.

A wrap around porch defines a prarie farm house.

Sorry, folks.
I like the outside. I bet it will look sharp when the landscaping is finished.
Jag - that was certainly a childish reaction from the client. Probably better that he showed his colors up front, before you got into the project and got burned.

Here are pictures of the house's exterior, courtesy of IMERC. The six food chain link fence is to keep coyotes, skunks, coons, badgers and assorted varmints out of the yard.
