Rugged mobile phones: feedback? recommendations? reviews?
I need a new mobil phone. I don’t want to make this a discussion about carriers, I’m not changing carriers. I have Verizon and won’t be changing at this time. I am an electrician, I carry my phone in my back pocket (believe it or not this in the most convenient and safest place I’ve found for it). I only need a phone. I rarely text, I don’t use it for messaging, or surfing. A good camera would be nice, but not vital. I want a phone that is durable and will be clear and reliable.
Well, what do you guys have for input?

Fast eddie the tile guy
has a phone Verizon was pushing not that long ago (beginning of this yr maybe). Supposedly one the troops could use in a wet or dusty desert area. It is a usual flip phone, had gps on it tho..........and a few other simple things. Small, like the older motorola.
I could ask ed if you need a number or name.
I'm looking for specific models and people's experience with them. I'm looking at the Casio G'zOne and the Samsung Convoy. Online reviews are very mixed. The bad reviews are usually either poorly written or have too little information. That makes me think that the reviewers are idiots, but that isn't always the case...I know that. The other thing is that sometimes the first phones out have bugs that get worked out with time. Then there is always the odd badly made one.
I just figured that i would get some more reliable feedback here.
Thanks

I'll email ed
and ask him for the name or model. Hope to get back to you shortly.
Casio Gz One
While I do not personally own this phone we bought it for my father in-law since he is very hard on phones in his work. After about 3 months of use the phone looks brand new and functions perfectly.
So this would be my recommendation for a no nonsense rugged phone.
Here's ed's reply.
Casio GZ1 but i'm not real happy with the new model. You can't just cradle it behind on your shoulder and talk. They moved the speaker so when you do that no one can hear you.
Eddie,
Bluetooth
Just get one with blue tooth, wear the dorky looking ear thing, and leave the phone securely buttoned in your pocket.
This lets you answer calls, with the phone fully protected, even in really bad weather.
Some of the phones also have the capability to let you voice dial frequently called numbers, via the headset.
Well, I bought the Casio G'zOne Ravine
So far, I'm very happy with my new phone. I got is the Casio G'zOne Ravine. I haven't had any problems with people hearing me and everything sounds clear on the phone. It's a great phone for the jobsite if you don't need a qwerty keyboard.

Good deal.
I liked the looks of it, seemed solid and the claim of waterresistant (proof?) and dustproof sounded good.
It has a pretty decent compass on it too. I forget, camera?
