Does anyone have any experience or opnion on Sanyo split air conditioning systems? On a vacation to Cape Cod several years ago I saw them used extensively. Here in Northeast Ohio I haven’t seen any. I’m considering using the system and would appreciate any information. Thanks

I have no experience with the Sanyo units but I do have one Split system ductless AC. I have mixed reviews. The two biggest problems with the system are the condensate drains and cleaning the coils and fan. You must have a good drain and you must keep it clean. If you neglect this the water will back up until it overflows and starts running down the wall which is very bad. And when cleaning the condenser coils the cleaning solution will also want to run down the wall. Good luck containing it. Remember that because the refridgerant lines are connected, you cannot remove the unit for cleaning like you can with a window unit. They are also quite expensive and in the long run will not save you any money. Their major advantage is that they can be installed into exhisting buildings where ductwork would be difficult or impossible.
Thanks for the advice. I have a house with too many windows and no shade. On a hot day my 5 ton AC runs continuously from 2:00 PM until 4:00 AM.[$20 a day]. I was considering the split AC for the bedrooms only. The house has casement windows and I didn't window AC.
Short of an all new high efficiency installation I think that retrofitting automatic dampers in the ducts and using multiple programmable thermostats would help you to only air condition the rooms you want at different times of day. You may want to check out this website. If only to see what is available. http://www.ecrtech.com/content/
Good Luck
I put one in the 3rd floor attic of an old house that was being renovated. It was a Goodman. I believe it is American made, in Texas. Great unit - as good as Foreign, IMHO, and !/2 the price. This has been a great unit. Powerful, quiet, easy to clean and service, very efficient. Fairly easy to install. Looks good in the room. Doesn't screw up the look of the old houseon the outside. I'd use again, anytime. Goodman seems like a good make. cheers.
