Savannah, GA – I beg a room Sep 13-14?

McDesign | Posted in General Discussion on August 28, 2007 08:47am

Hey, my imaginary BT friends –

I have a PolySteel (ICF) seminar to attend September 14 and 15 in Savannah.  Since Monster House will be ICFs, I better learn the latest!

I am 3-1/2 hrs away here, too far to commute.

The space they have reserved for us is somewhere called “The ThunderBird Inn”, where I’m imagining their signature fortified wine is served with every meal!

I’d hoped some of the BT brethern living within a half hour or so from Savannah could set me up with a bed the night of the 13th and the 14th (Thursday and Friday nights) – I’d just drive home after the class on the 15th.

I don’t smoke or travel with a dog.

Thanks for yer consideration

Forrest

IIRC, the "Thunderbird" is actually a pretty schmancy place.

We're headed down to Jekyll Island in October. Probably go back to Savannah for a day trip. Let me know if the Thunderbird is the place to be seen.

Yup - that's why I'm going. I've been asked to straighten a couple of things out.

Sorry about the hijack. I've been fascinated with Savannah for years. It and Key West are two of my favorite vacation destinations for basically the same reasons. Wouldn't want to live in either one, though.

Sure this has been addressed, but I don't coem around asw much as I used to.

Are you doing an actual "Monster house" or just stealing the name for a project of yours?

    just curious,

The bad news is you've done exactly the right things to be exactly where you are today.

    Forrest,

Sorry, I'm 9 hours away from Savannah, otherwise I'd offer my monster house to you. Next conference in DC though, you've got a place to crash.

But, if you are looking for a place in Savannah, I'd heartily recommend the place I stayed on my last trip there, the Mansion on Forsyth Park. Historic mansion renovated into a hip hotel. It's got that whole funky historic/spooky haunted motif going, and somehow I think you'd dig it.

Aw heck, my first SIL was a stripper - finally left my brother for another woman.

Also, I'll bet there are lots of puns and double entendres that could come from that - something like -

Anyone?  I'll have to make reservations at the old Thunderbird by this weekend . . .

Means I have to drive the ol' truck, and not my baby hotrod, if I have to park in a hotel parking lot.

      Sigh

Okay, so nobody came through - I made my res. at the recommended "ThunderBird" in Savannah.  Afterward, I thought I'd check for online reviews - got this:

Please find somewhere else to stay: Have you ever slept with a dirty dog out in an open field? Well that is the equivalent of what you will do at this motel. I have stayed here and let me be the first to warn you; DO NOT STAY HERE. Within the first 48 hours of being at this motel I was attacked by rodents. We had 4 rodents appear out of nowhere in our room. The worst part of this is that we were asleep when they were running around the room. My husband woke up to find a rodent on our bed. THE BED THAT WE PAID TO SLEEP IN. There are several things that I observed while I was there. We had a illegal substance dealer approach us in the parking lot as we were trying to get from our car to our room. We also talked to another renter there who said that he rented his room for a few hours, and then he was leaving. That same room was rented again that night WITHOUT BEING CLEANED!!!!! So again I would like to warn you that if you wanna sleep with a dirty dog, be my guest, but if not please find yourself another place to stay!!!

        OMG!

Wait - that can't be right.  It says "Motel" not "Inn".  Whew!  Re-search.  I get this instead:

Savannah: Thunderbird Inn: "Dirty Sheets, No Housekeeping"

        Great.  Tons better . . .

Bourbon, I've got.  Seems like I'll try to pick up some Thunderbird on the way down - want her to feel at home.
