Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but Over the years I’ve amassed a stack of 10″ saw blades that stands about 4′ tall. These aren’t cheap $30 blades. Lots of them are Amana Tool Solid surface blades, there are a bunch of chopmaster blades and what not. I estimate there to be sever thousand dollars worth of blades. My problem is that there is no one i can find in the yellow pages or on the internet with in 75 miles of me that sharpens blades anymore. Is this an extinct service? I am at the point where I don’t want to spend money on nice blades anymore. I know Dewalt and Forrest(I think) offer mail back sharpening, but I’d like to find someone local that can sharpen the whole lot. Maybe not all at once, but I’ve got alot of nice blades that I’d like to use again Does anyone know of any services in south Jersey? If not, I think I might look into getting into it. There must be some demand for it since there is absolutely no supply that I can find.

I don't think you could do any better with that investment than to send them to Forrest for inspection and sharpenning.

Will they do all brands though? Like I said, I have alot of Amana, some Tenryu, Some Makita blades. I'd even send the Freud blades in, but I kinda consider them throwaways.
Yes, they do a fine job. Last sharpening I had them do was three forrest blades, and 4-5 others, CMT and Freud. I remember that one of the others got a new tip or two replaced, and another one they refused to work on, marking it up with reasons why. The local guy would have just gone ahead and sharpened it. The locals do not do as fine and they grind everything the same regardless, so they wear down the metal and the blade does not last as long. Nor do they do tuning.I got my first Tenryu blades to run while thoise were out. They are pretty nice too. Makitas are my favorite for the 7-1/4" circ saw. I don't resharpen those very often, just move them to demo saw status until they are smoking the wood, then throw them out.

Thats good to know. I don't think they would appreciate me sending in a few hundred blades, but i'll send in a handful of the nicest ones at a time. I like the Makita 70 tooth 10" blades. They cut nice, they stay sharp, and they are super quiet. Too bad they stopped making them. I haven't tried the new 80 tooth ones yet, but I imagine they are just as nice.
send a few to seee how you like the service and tell them you have all these others and ask if they will cut you a deal on the whole pile. Might get a better rate.Part of me knows where you are going with this I think.I have so many blades that now since I've cut back, I probably have more than enough to last my life and then some.

Thats a good idea. I'm also wondering if it would be worth it to load them up and take them all at once since Im in New Jersey. I'm not sure where Clifton is, but it can't be more than two hours away. I hate to get rid of them, and Solid Surface blades aren't something I can run out and get when ever one gets dull.
Phone is a cheap way to find out.

Forrest in Clifton. Clifton is near where Rts 3 and 46 come together. Don't know where you are in South Jersey but if you take the Parkway North to Exit 153, I believe, that puts you on 3W and you're right in the area.I went to school with the youngest son, used to be friends years ago, and he and his brother know my dad fairly well. We all go to the same church.I think the oldest son, Jim Jr., might run it now, since his father passed away.Glenn
Glenn-
you ever see their operation? I got a invite to see it quite a few years ago, but never took them up on it.
No. I really haven't been friends since JR High. Just drifted. Saw him a few months ago at my dad's art showing and as he was talking with my dad, I said good bye to my dad and then shook Jay's hand and said Hi.
Caught him off guard then he realized who I was.I was right: Jay and the oldest brother Jim run it now.Want me to see if I can get us in?By the way- you been up here lately? Give me a shout if you are, if you need anything or just want to grab lunch. If I didn't give you my ### let me know and I'll get them to you.Glenn
I'm up every Sunday, and at least 3 days during the week. The house needs a lot of work. Almost every nail in the drywall has popped, requiring me to re-fasten the rock, spackle, etc. Once the painting is done, the hardwood floors need refinishing.
Getting together for lunch would be great. My cell is 908-872-0912, or just swing by the house- 69 Rhinesmith. If a big red van is there, that's me.
I still might go up today. If not, I'll definitely be there tomorrow.
Isn't that 60 Rhinesmith? And you weren't there today. I stopped by.You do much with hardwood floors, because I might have a job I need help on if you are available.Glenn
What time did you stop by? I got there a little after 10, went out for lunch about 1, and headed home about 3. I know, banker's hours.
I'm not sure about the number. I know its on the front of the house, and the first number is 6. I'll have to check. I do know its the second to last house on the right, and its yellow.
I think I was there a little shy of 11. Didn't see the van. ANY van.I think my banker actually works longer hours than that.Where did you head for lunch?Man, it's going to be hard to get your mail if you don't even have the right address.I'm going to be at my parent's house in Pompton Plains all day if you want to stop by.I'll send you my cell number and their address if you are interested.Glenn

My grandfather did that. He was very successful with sharpening and locksmithing. When he retired, he sold all of his equipment to a local hardware store. They proceeded to sell it for scrap metal. There has been nobody in the area since then that has done it, but i'm not entirely sure that it would pay for itself. I can go to home cheapo and buy a red blade for $40 and 75% of the "fine carpenters" in this area think that is the pinnacle of saw blades.
Every spring I ship my blades to Forrest MFG for sharpening. They fix and sharpen all brands.
You get out of life what you put into it......minus taxes.

I wasn't aware that they did all brands until Piffin clued me in. I'll be boxing them up this week.
I had the same exact problem here. I'm sending mine on to Forrest shortly. I have 4 of them that need resharpening (forrests), and they ain't cheap!
I don't know how far south you are in NJ but I use a guy in south Philly J & B sharping, 215 467 2245. They are a little past broad street and oregon ave.
They stand behind what they do and I've yet to have a problem. They have a pickup service, give them a call to see if they come past you. 384 blades? they might make a special trip.
thats probably about 15 minutes from me. I'm kinda leaning towards Forrest now, but I'll keep them in mind.
I think they are still there,
Call Force machinary in Union New Jersey. They are on the west bound side of 22, just were it splits and there are stores in the median.
If they don't sharpen, they'll know who does

They're still there. I was in just last week
How far are you from Lyndhurst? Ridge Carbide is in Lyndhurst and that's where I send all my blades (mostly Freud) for sharpening. They have a good website and costs listed, and they do a good job. Probably 10-15 bucks per blade, but it's cheaper than buying new ones all the time. They also have their own line of blades and cutters which I've seen at shows and are pretty comparable to Forrest.
I'm also in South Jersey, Ridge carbide in Lyndhurst is where I send saw blades and jointer and planer knives. They are reasonable and do an excellent job. They have a website. They sharpen to 1200 grit I believe.I used them even though there are a couple of sharpening services within 20 miles of me.
You could try Richards Sharpening service on Mill Road in Northfield, there used to be another one in Linwood, not sure if it is still there.I haven't used either of these, so I can't recommend them.
