I was hoping someone could shed some light on when to restain exterior wood such as cedar siding or log siding. I am hearing from a carpenter to do so more in the early years (the house is just finishing and has been under construction for a year and a half) and that the log fabricators recommend staining every year in the first few years for better long term protection and then repeat every few years after that. the painter says it would be better to wait until next year for all of the wood- cedar and doug fir logs and stain it every 2 years after that.
the house is in CO and exposed to all extremes of weather. Thanks for any opinions that can be offered.
