I have extensive experience with MS Project and even TurboProject, but lately I’ve been seeing a lot of job descriptions asking for Primavera and Timberline experience.
Are the platforms/formats similar, or will it be like learning to ride a bike all over again?
Thanks for the input!

What is Turbo Project?
Knockoff version of MS Project. Creates a Gant chart and you can add and move events, but the budgeting features are limited.
Basically a project scheduler program for people that can't afford the $400-$600 fro Project (which I couldn't when I 1st started)
Is MS Project much "better" then Turbo? I am/was thinking of buying MS project to help manage our projects closer but if I could save a little money why not.
"Better" no...but there are a lot of features that do the same thing as MS Project. Like any other program, this is only as good as the info that you put into it.
I haven't used it, but OpenOffice has a free download of a project management software. Open Office has done a great job of "copying" a lot of the features of Microsoft applications and they're free! The only problem is sharing the results with others who do not have the same software.
This might be a way to get your feet wet to see if all the updating data entry fits into you project management
