I just learned from my local supplier that Schlage, now owned by the giant Ingersoll Rand Corp., will stop making the A-series lockset. They will continue to make the cheaper, more plastic F-series. This means the trim and the styles will also be gone and we will be left with either a fake shiny brass or a fake antique brass with exposed screws. Once again the integrity of the dollar is more important than the integrity of the reputation. Soon, our only source for building materials will be the giant discount chain stores and all our houses will look identical.

That sucks. The Schlage A-series is probably the lock we have installed the most where good quality was needed without spending a fortune.
*It is becoming more obvious that business is more motivated by greed than quality. In the world of the Wall Street casino, the product is nothing but 2nd thought, and 1/2 the gamblers don't even know what they're buying or selling. These people are just children in adult clothes playing with dangerous toys. The unfortunate result of this rampant game is the lack of concern that ensues for the health of the business, and quality falls at a rapid rate. When the structural integrity of any entity is jeopardized, its output suffers proportionally.fv
*Yeah, well I just found out one of my favourite craft brewers (Brick) has been given an investment from one of the giants (Molson) to whittle down their offerings and be less competitive. Their goes a whole bunch of choice on that front! The big boys can't figure out how to make good product cheap so they buy out the competition and shut 'em down.
*I think they're going to keep the AL series though. They needed to create a bit more of a gap between the Schlage and the Baldwin lines to stop people from thinking they were interchangeable.
*My Schlage Distributor, Chown Hardware (www.chown.com) tells me the A series is not discontinued.Of course there are no Baldwin products that resemble Schlage A series.joe d
*It's about $'s Joe.
*I checked with my local lock shop and they didn't know anything about it. I would like to think that maybe this is just a rumour.
*b TVMDCIf the "A" series is the one with the dual function twist button, i.e., twist a 1/4 turn to unlock, push-in and/or twist to relock, then that is not such a bad thing: I and removing (4) of these puppies from a clients house and replacing them with passage latches so people CAN'T lock themselves out.
