Forrest,
Cabs look good. I like the roll out cabs under the sink.
What type of wood and finish did you use?

Love it Forrest.
How many hours would you guess you had in the cabinets?
Ballpark on materials?
Looks very much like something that could work well in my current project.
Thanks

Doesn't that marsh mallow foam make an excellent filler strip!

Cab Parts doesn't offer plywood boxes.
Know anyone who does?
Very nice. I really like the "Ships Ladder" cab run , The Cabs on wheels was pretty cool to.FWIW I dont do many kitchens, But I like building my own. Do you know a good source for finish design ideas. I have a bid in to build a complete kitchen including Island. This is in a old mexican style home. I was considering going with a distressed/crackle finish but cant get the HO to visualize it. Also a rustic Alder or Hickory.
Beautiful work! please tellm me, tho, that the walls will be painted something besides white?
Gene, would you be so kind as to spend a little time figuring what this kitchen would cost using your methods. I would imagine I am not the only one here that would like to know.
I was suprised to see how shocked you were at Forrest's pricing. Would really like to know what kind of real savings could be achived with your methods.
Thanks in advance,
Shoe

Gene, I got the email you sent me.
Not sure why you say " PMing this to you because it is better said privately."
I personally think you may have wanted to email Forrest - rather than publicly tell him how shocked you were that he was wasting time in his shop and how much you hoped he would be smart enough not to do that again, so that he could provide his clients with some real VALUE.
In your message to me, you mentioned that if I didn't do at least 4 kitchens a year, it was a waste of my time to use your methods. Do you have any idea how many kitchens Forrest does a year?
Sorry, I could rant here for quite a while, but, that was not my intention.
If you think your methods are so much better, please, as I requested tell us your pricing for the same cabinets, made from the same materials. Otherwise you are simply online blowing smoke in my opinion.
Nice to know of your methods, not too impressed with your approach of informing.
Hope to see some pricing from you,
Shoe
Hey Forrest,
Nice job.
In spite of the above discussion, I think your doing it up for the family was a labor of luv, with a bit of remuneration which don't hurt anything at all.
But,
Do those folks have what appears to be 10 pounds of #### in a 4 or 5 pound bag? Man, if the cabs are full they could use about a whole nother kitchen there for the "extras".
Thanks for posting.
And notice I have now added the other R, you've more than earned it.

I was looking for pricing info in my first post. I often hear people telling others that they spend too much on cabinets and should buy online. I always wonder how substantial those savings are.
You did provide me with some good information - actual links that I can check. I do thank you for that. You also informed me that it would be a waste of my time if I don't do at least 4 kitchens a year. I thank you for that as well - I only do 2 maybe three kitchens per year and often end up with Kraftmade boxes. I am always looking for sources. I have used local shops to make doors for me for cabinets I have made, and really don't see me making doors again myself.
I also admit I was also "calling you out" in my second post. Not with what you posted to me - but what I thought you were telling Forrest.
I didn't see any reason for you to keep your response "private". I don't think there was anything incriminating in there. I thought there was good information that many people on the forum could use. I don't think posting your whole email to me would put any negative light on you - It was good information.
What kind of set me off, was your post to Forrest. Since you asked, these are the lines that I took offense to..........
OMG! That much, in time and cost? You wouldn't do that again, would you
I took that as you telling him he had really made a mistake.
It all frees up time for you to deliver real VALUE to your customers
I found that line to insinuate that he was not currently serving his customers right in your eyes.
Kinda felt like your post asking him for pricing was "calling him out" and seeing your response to his price - I thought it only fair that you give yours.
Like I say I posted to "call you out" on your pricing and to actually learn - Seems to me I accomplished both.
Thanks for the information,
Shoe
What the he11 happened here? I went to figure out what the flap was and the thread's been shot full of holes.
Sorry, seems to be some mis understanding
I'll take the blame, didn't mean to throw the thread off track
Sorry,
Shoe
Not sure what used to be where all the holes are
I haven't deleted anything
Shoe, what used to be there is Forrest's post and pics.

I just noticed that. Our loss.
Sorry to see. I meant what I said about people having the guts to show their work here. I think that is what caused me to feel the need to respond to Genes comments on Forrest's pricing.
Sorry if I had anything to do with Forrest pulling the pics. I really appreciated them and meant to say that earlier in the thread - before I let myself get sidetracked.
Oh, well - another day in cyberspace.
Well, that sucks. I was all excited to see the pics and now they are gone.
Well this is all real mature now aint it!
Well, ya' know, maybe a little too deep into the Christmas Scotch.

Good looking cabinets from what little I saw Forrest!

My take on it is that Gene Davis does not appreciate that you do not always do what you do for money alone, or you would have stayed in your former line of work. Craftsmanship, enjoyment, customer satisfaction, etc. Can't see the Forest for the green.

Sorry for mucking up your thread.
Nice cabinets, and I always appreciate the people that are willing to post their work here, knowing the critiquing they may get.
Thanks for posting - nice work,
Shoe
Sorry, I was mistaken. Just looked back thru the thread to see what someone else ment about it being "shot full of holes" and realized that you are not the one who asked Forrest for pricing info.
My mistake,
Shoe
