Does anyone have a suggestion or recommendation of how to remove scratches in the polyurethane finish on my wood floors caused by the edges of carpeting that was not over padding? This is about a 4 to 6 inch stripe around the edge of the carpet we just changed. Don’t want to refinish whole floor.

I'd like to hear the answer myself because I never found a solution other than refinishing.
One thing I did that worked pretty well was to use Butchers wax over the scratches. Wasn't perfect and needs to be redone every once in a while but its the only thing I found that was reasonable

Should have used a same size replacement carpet. Is it a gloss or a satin finish? Either way, as Andy suggested, waxes are the way to go. Or may be just buff the whole floor, shouldn't be too much work.

If they are just scratches in the polyurethane coat and not gouged through to the wood, you can just sand out the scratches with 120g sandpaper and recoat the floor with one coat of polyurethane. You will need to light sand the whole area you want to recoat as well. GW
Howard's Restore-A-Finish. At ~$8-- $10 a can it's worth a one off try to put off a big refinishing job. Comes in different shades too. Slainte.
