Greetings. I am building a 16×16 screened porch on top of a deck off of my first floor. I plan to use a 4/12 gable roof. The second story of my house is cantilevered 2ft in this area resulting in a 14’ span for the ridge. I would like to use a ridge beam however I am concerned about the load carried by the cantilevered wall. I would like the raised ceiling look of a ridge beam setup but would not be apposed to a double rafter tie on one set of rafters in the middle of the room.
My question is: Does a rafter tie on the outermost wall, two on a middle set of rafters, and the set of rafters nailed to the studs of the second story wall change the need for a ridge beam vs ridge?

The code here is a rafter tie every 6 feet or less. I have those for the vaulted ceiling on my shop - 20' wide - and they work well. It's also a 4/12 pitch.
So you have a ridge BOARD (not Beam) with a rafter tie every 6 feet and it seems to work well?
