My new screened porch will have aluminum-framed screen panels made almost identical to the window screens throughout the house. I want to be able to remove the screen panels in the winter and replace them with plexiglas panels, not to be able to heat the porch, but just to keep the blown snow off, and extend the porch season a bit. Typical panel size is 38 x 48. Recommend me a plexiglas thickness, if you have experience with this. Thanks.

.125 inch aka "double strength" is what you want.
I am familiar with glass, and in glass, 1/8" thick, or 3 mm thick, or 0.125" thick, is referred to as "DS" or double-strength. Thanks for your recommendation, but I am presuming we are still talking about plexiglas, or acrylic plastic sheet?
Plexiglass is the same as glass. .125 is double strength, .100 is single strength. I would make sure to get acrylic - preferably plexiglass because some brands of acrylic are more brittle than others. Some generic plastic glazing is made from styrene and is brittle and will become yellowish after a while. Polycarbonate (lexan) is unbreakable but expensive and scratches easily.
