The set screw that holds my blade in my reciprocating saw broke off.
Looks like a little of the threaded part as well as the pin part )that holds the blade) are in there. Haven’t figured how to back it out.
Anyone ever have this happen? It is a “Black and Decker Professional” ,
if I’m not mistaken I think it is replaced by the Dewalt line? Been a
good tool , only problem in 10 years is this screw.
Any thoughts on how to get that screw out , I’ve got me a spare screw,
thought I’d ask before I go and do someting stupid.
Thanks,
DJ

Well now your in a fix. The best thing to extract a broken screw with is a left twist drill bit. Auto supply stores and machine shop supply places carry them. You put it in the drill, turn it to reverse. (Remember it's a left twist.) and try to drill in, the theory is and it almost always works,is that when the drill bit starts to bite in it will catch the screw and bring it right out. I would say I have had an 85% success rate using this method. Good luck
*Before you haul out the heavy artillery, try using a very small center punch and tapping it (the broken off screw) in a circular pattern. If the screw isn't cross threaded or otherwise "stuck", this may do the trick. If this won't do it, Gunner's advice is good. make sure to centerpunch the screw, though, to keep the drill bit from wandering. Sam
*d j k, round here, what Gunner's talking about is an "easy out". Drop by, I've got 'em...bb
*I should have thought of the center punch. The drill bit ususaly comes as part of an easy out set.
*Talk to your local gunsmith if he's a buddy. Happens all the time. Dremel tool with an engraving bit to cut a screw slot is one option. Center punch is a good idea. If there's a little piece to grab a pair of forceps (Kelly clamps?) works. I'll try to think of the other options.Scott
*Thanks guys,I'll try some of your ideas tonight when I get home from work.DJ
*Oh bullshit...walk like a man...give the saw away to one of your crew and use it as an excuse to buy a new one. We CAN'T have you going and screwing up the delicate balance of nature in our universe by INTENTIONALLY trying to fix a tool that could be more easily replaced. What are you trying to do, get us all in trouble? Troublemaker!
*DJK- If you do end up replacing it do everything you can to get the biggest Milwaukee Sawzall you can afford! The Dewalt is garbage and typically gets the problem you are now experiencing. Milwaukee, hands-down!
*So........... did you ever get it fixed? How dod yopu do it? Share the info for the rest of us.
See what ya get when replying a question to ALL.
