How fast can you screw? Dewalt has a contest that says it will give a million bucks to whoever can sink five screws the fastest. I can’t find anything that says how long the screws are or what type of wood, but they do say that last year’s contest winner sank the five screws in 6.77 secs. Yeah, I could do that – if they were 5/8″ screws in balsa wood…
Of course, anyone who wins and learned about this contest from me has to share it with me…

Rats! I gotta sell my entire collection of Fine Homebuilding magazine. Issues 1 through 150! So I decided to put it up on eBay. They are being sold in lots of 10. All lots start at 99 cents. So get on in there and pick yourself up a bargain or two...
Check it our here... FHB on eBay
6.77 seconds for 5 times? Don't know if that's more impressive or more embarassing... :)

During each round of the Challenge, each participant will be timed to determine how fast the participant can drive five (5) 1-5/8" drywall screws into a wood board using a DEWALT XRP 14.4 volt cordless drill/driver (a "Drill"). At each Challenge event, DEWALT will provide a contest workstation and all contest materials. Participants must use the materials and contest workstations provided by DEWALT. Participants will not be allowed to bring their own Drill or other materials (including, but not limited to, screw driver bits, gloves, etc).
In order for a participant to record a "Valid Time", the participant must: (1) start the timer using the same hand that the participant intends to use to hold the Drill; (2) grab the Drill using the same hand that the participant used to start the timer; (3) grab screws; (4) drive five screws flush into the wood board (the screws are deemed flush if a DEWALT representative can pass a straight edge over all five screws without the straight edge catching on any of the screws); and (5) stop the timer using the bottom of the battery on the Drill. Participants may not touch the screws prior to starting the timer. Only Valid Times will count during the Challenge Period. Each participant will be given one opportunity to record a Valid Time.
That'd sure be fun to try, but only one chance, gees.
If you could get a picture of the test stand they use, and lay things out as they do, then practice it a few times, you could cut your time down a good bit. I doubt they publish that much info though.
It's probably 3" long #6 brass screws into hard maple with no pre-drilling...nobody wins!
You can go here and see when the qualifying rounds are scheduled in your state.

None are near me, or I'd be tempted to give it a shot. Sounds like fun.
Men are like a fine wine. They all start out like grapes, and it's the woman's job to stomp on them and keep them in the dark until they mature into something we'd want to have dinner with.
They did an impromptu contest like this at a DW display at HD a few years ago. I tried it. Boy, did I suck bigtime, and I use an 18v driver every day. I think the best time, while I was standing there, was by a DIY female.
