Hello again all!
First, lemme say thanks for answering my previous questions! It’s great to know I still have you guys (and gals) to help me out, especially since I’m remodeling my bathroom. (I have -0- plumbing skills LOL.)
I am replacing my old sink with a new one whose flange rests on top of the countertop. The old one had little metal clamps, but the new one’s instructions say just to apply a sealant to the underside. So, in effect, it has to be a sealant and an adhesive.
What’s the product to use for this? Also, should I caulk around the sink once it’s installed?
And finally, on a different topic, what’s the best way to reinstall a toilet?
Thanks again for your advice!

Adhesive calk is what you need for your sink, color to match sink or clear. Water clean-up is perfered; put a bead on the flange of the sink, make sure the sink is straight, then clean up the outside edge making sure all gaps are sealed. Read your calking tube to see how much set-up time you have before you can work on it, luck.
Some folks prefer other types, but your basic silicone "bathtub" caulk is fine. You can use either white/colored or clear. Apply enough that it will squeeze out (and then be cleaned up) and no further caulking around the sink should be required.
One trick I've used when reinstalling a toilet in tight quarters is to set it up on a couple of short 2x4s on edge (one in front and one in back), get it all lined up with gasket and bolts, turn the 2x4s down flat and check alignment, then remove the 2x4s.
I prefer doing it with the tank removed, but this technique makes it reasonable to do a single-handed install with the tank in place.
Thanks y'all!
I have a tube of white Powergrab adhesive caulk, so that's what I'll use. I was also thinking I could put enough on to squeeze out some to avoid having to caulk around it once installed.
DanH, I may try your trick on the toilet--although my wife will help me get it back in the bathroom (from the back porch), I dunno if we'll have enough room for both of us in the nook it's in.Former framer turned cop
I wouldn't use Powergrab... get one of the caulks that has mildewcide in it. Might not be water clean up but if you aren't too messy it shouldn't be such a big deal.PaulB
Well I cracked the closet flange today while tightening the toilet bolts, so yet another setback for the bathroom remodel nightmare.
I am calling my plumber Monday--he can set the stinking toilet and get the old bathtub drain out!
Ugh....this is why I chose framing as a trade.Former framer turned cop
