I just finished tiling a marble backsplash for our kitchen and was wondering if anyone could recommend a good sealer. Should such a sealer be applied before, after, or in lieu of a grout sealer?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

The marble itself is most likely already epoxied, polished and waxed. It is just the grout that you are sealing. most any Grout sealer should work but read the label to see that it is approved for marble. Some are silicone based but others are intended to penetrate and harden stone and those may not all be compatible with marble

Thanks for the advice and I will make sure it is compatible. In your experience, does one type of grout sealer offer any better stain protection than the others?
I have not done enough follow up to know. What I usually do is ask at the tile shop where I buy most of my stuff which they recommend for a particular stone or tile. The guy who runs that place is older than I am and has been breathing stone sdust all his life and has arthritic joints from the work. So I trust his recommendations. I don't shop at HD where the boys in orange change monthly.hopefully somebody else can chime in with a brand name if that is what you are looking for.

All stone should be sealed, even granite. We always seal stone (& unpolished unglazed porcelains) before grouting to prevent the grout pigments from staining the stone. Also acts as a grout release to keep it out of the little veins & pits. We also suggest a sealer on the grout lines.
Favorate brands are "Miracle" & "Aqua-Mix". You want a penetrating sealer, not a topcoat (silacate, not silacone).
Try Aqua-Mix Pen Sealer Gold or Miracle 511.
