Hey all…. I posted this in the tavern but realize that many of you here don’t venture into that seedy joint so I figured I’d post it up here as well.
I’ve been working on a Scrabble board for a client and am rather proud of the project now that it is done and naturally want to show it off.
for those that have been following along, here is a shot of the Scrabble board that I’ve been working on…. It is ready to ship once I figure a good way to ship it safely.
For those of you that are able or patient, you can go to this link and see all the pics in larger form http://www.petedraganic.com/scrabble/scrabble.htm although this page may take some time to load.
Yes, I even sewed the nice velvet bag with the cord and tassles for the scrabble tiles.

Beautiful job on the board, nice work. Did I read in the tavern that this is a gift for a client, or is this a job?
BTW, you look a little like one of my kids favorite cartoon characters.
This is a job for a client that is giving it as a gift to his wife.
btw, of course they love Spongebob... who doesn't?

I don't."Down these mean streets a man must go who is not himself mean, who is neither tarnished nor afraid...He must be, to use a rather weathered phrase, a man of honor, by instinct, by inevitability, without thought of it, and certainly without saying it." - Raymond Chandler
Pete,
That's sweet looking. How did you make the dividers for the top of the board? What was the hardest part, and did you use the letters from an off the shelf game or get crazy and make them as well?
Again, it looks great.
Neil
the dividers/grid were made by cutting kerfs in the board face in both directions and then I cut kerfs into a solid board of mahogany in one direction and then ripped it inot thin strips that locked together and matched the kerfs on the board face. It was actually easier than it looks thanks to the jig I made.
Yes, I also made all the letter tiles too.
Actually, the hardest part was getting the box joints glued and assembled. They fit so tight that it was murder to get them all the way together and keep them square and all.
aside from that, none of it was all that difficult, just time consuming... but I really enjoyed making it...... (now I just hate to give it up)

No pics when I try the link- just red X's.
maybe try it again......?? I can get the pics and I assume others here are getting them. I'd be tempted to post them all here but the folks on slower connections awould kill me.

I tried again with both AOL and IE- same results- just red X's and no pics. Maybe it's just me- a setting somewhere?
Maybe resize them with Infranview to keep the size down?
Excellent workmanship - The recipient will enjoy it for many years to come. It reminds me of one of those things that gets passed down through the family from one generation to the next.^^^^^^

Could you make money selling those on a large scale? There are a lot of people who like the game.Could you sell 100, or 1,000, or 100,000 or more of them? you would have to find a way to make them as quickly and inexpensively as possible.^^^^^^

I was close to spending $150 on the scrabble edition @ restoration hardware (link) for a gift, so there's definately a market.
see, you've got everyone doing it now!

Actually, I just moved my 80's Ludwig drumkit out to a shed the other day as a general house cleaning to ready for construction.
I'm thinking of selling it if you know anyone else in the need.
Nice work by Pete on the Scrabble board.

that's very nice work, Mr Pete.
Is that bird's eye maple for the base and mahogany for the the top?
How did you do the colored squares on top of the board?
I like the box joints too.

That's exactly the kind of wood it is.
I simply painted the colored squares on top and then stamped them with the appropriate lettering. I used one of my nice flat-tipped artist brushes and semigloss latex paint.

Splendid!
Very nice Pete.
Looks like a double base, is there a turntable/lazy susan incorporated into it?
Gorgeous wood, the top looks terrific.

Beautiful work, Pete. How many hours did it take? Have you done jewelry boxes and such in the past?"War is God's way of teaching Americans geography." Ambrose Bierce
