Ok, these are not the best photos–but not bad for off the phone and in the ride.
If they are not finished by then (this is a fast project) I’ll try and get “real” photos.
Isn’t that special? The apartment-oids all have existing BUR with metal drip edges. The new “rafters” are bird’s-mouthed right over the drip edge, and toenailed into it (no horixontal plate at all). Ridges & hips are all single, and all 2×6.
They are using clips between the plywood–and it is ply, not osb (just likely that “shy of 7/16” stuff).
Note the, ah, er, “scaffolding”–it really does just “lean” against the building with a plank naied across the tops.
What a fascinating use of scrap material <eyeroll>
Will be interesting to see how the dormers get finished–they will be the only access to this new “attic” (no scuttles through existing, and remaining, BUR).
See, a bit of olive paint over all those fussy bricks–“bit’a powder, bit’a paint–make’er what she ain’t” Oh, and that unit in the back, jsut visible between the two here–when these were originally built, that one had all the windows installed backwards.
Still waiting to hear what the BI will say–stunned silence after emailing them about the scaffolding <g>. No permits posted–but would be required for the work; but they may be finished by Monday, having started on Monday.
And people wonder why I rail against high-density housing . . .

Well that looks as well built as that 2 story trailer house thats sitting over on Hwy 21 east of town. (If its still there)
I guess their using a lifetime roof since the drip cant be replaced now.
I think my ex SIL and my niece used to live there.
When everthing is going your way, you're in the wrong lane

Sure it can, first "line wind" that rolls down Briarcrest will lift those "lids" right off. They are being held by gravity and toenailing through the drip into what ever edge blocking the BUR had.
Now, since there's some sort of BUR still there--after the lids pop off, the tennants will still have some sort of roof. Mind you, the people in the neighborhoods down wind may not like it much. (Hello, Flybynite Insurance? Yeah, an apartment roof jus' fell on my house . . . )

Hmm, does not ring bells off hand. Remember a cross street maybe? Now, in some fainess, it's built up from the bypass all the way out past Coulter Field now.Occupational hazard of my occupation not being around (sorry Bubba)
i have a set of lean toos but just 4 foot and 8 foot tall, would never use them with help though i would get a fine, Never saw them that tall if i ever was that nuts i would at least stake them so you could not push them back

Yeah, well, tough to drive stakes into the concrete sidewalks or asphalt parking lot . . .
This is right alongside of a major thoroughfare, too. I'm guessing that those that know better can't believe what they are seeing (those that don't know better probably don't notice at all).
I'm guessing that the process of governance is moving at its usual pace, which will not be fast enough to address this. So, there's probably no permit, which means no paper trail, and no procedures (how do you red-tag an undocumented work site? Can you actually estop unlawful acts?)Occupational hazard of my occupation not being around (sorry Bubba)
Nice design. I particularly like the dormers-scale is just right. The ersatz columns add a touch of panache. Or would that be a soupcon of je ne se qua. I used to have a dog who would have been proud to call it home.

Yeah, and if you tried to kennel animals in those buildings, you'd probably be hauled of for duress vile in the nearest gaol, too . . .
Found out today, it's all brand new ownership. Said ownership taking advantage of some federal grants for HUB use, too.
Also noted that the residents are still in the apartments, too--with water & power in varying amouts of "on" too.Occupational hazard of my occupation not being around (sorry Bubba)
