Hi! This might be obvious but it’s completely new to me. Please don’t judge. π
I have a new dishwasher coming and wanted to test the water supply valves under my kitchen sink. I turned them both off successfully. When turning them back on, the water pressure was lower. I turned them both off again and then back on and now the water is nearly non-existent.
Are both valves likely worn out inside? They’ve probably never been replaced since this building went up two or three decades ago.
If I want to replace them (with help from building maintenance), can I get standard Brasscraft or the like parts?
Pics attached. One has an attachment to the dishwasher.
Thank you,
Rob

home despot (my term) sells a valve service kit.
it has a plastic vs the metal stem in the original valves.

You might only need a washer.
but my guess is that if you have building maintenance, they have experience and parts to fix this up.
One issue with such old valves is that sometimes when you touch them they start to leak. you may have one where the washer has broken up and is blocking the flow to the faucet.
my free advice would be not to touch them until you have the maintenance guy around, and can access the next shutoff upstream.

Those aren't original and have probably been replaced several times. They are standard shut off valves and should be a quick and easy fix.
UncleMike42 and Florida,
Thank you both very much. I appreciate the help.
Best,
Rob
BTW UncleMike42, I watched that video and in fact the water out of my faucet did seem off. I took off the aerator and yep there was stuff there which could have come from one of those washers. :-)
See if they can replace them with a better quality ball valve as well. I believe they tend to last longer and not break if you donβt use them every now and then.

Thanks, DIrightGuy. I'm learning a lot from this.
