I hit the road early today…arrived at Mattoon, Il. at 7:30 a.m. and by 8:30 a.m….was walking up both stairs. I had ten guys haul these pigs into the house and set them in place.
It all fit perfect and the owners were delighted. Their house is ultral contempory as the pictures show. Not my style….but these have been fun to work on.

Nice workmanship of course. The outside of the house looks like a school building or dr office. Inside I like better. The first stairs I built were very much like this, but I used 2 x 12 mahogany stringers with the treads routed into pockets. No risers though. Snug fit between the joists, but I shoulda still secured them. I worked alone lifting it into place, and musta spread the stringers, be/c the treads came tumbling down on my head. Thought I was gonna die. Probably still have a divot there.
Cool Stan.
What do you think those things weighed and what are you doing for hand rail, assuming that you are doing it.

Great photo's. Did you transport the stairs with the glass in? If so, I wouldn't have had the courage to take them on the highway.
You can take tempered glass anywhere as long as the edges are sorta kinda protected. Tougher than most other materials.
Yeah, I guess windshields are made of glass. I'm so smart some times...
I'm missing something. Where's the glass?

Nice space. Trying to imagine the finish pcs on that cool stair. Glass sides instead of balusters? Don't see them cluttering up the sight lines. Sides of stringers? Did you already explain this in the other thread or is this some milkbone thing?
You never cease to amaze. Never the same stan is how I think of you. Cuts down on boredom.
thanks.

I am done with the stairs as posted. I could have sneakingly claimed the work yet to be done...but that would not be right.
The railing will be panels of tempered glass. The stringers are to be clad in steel. The glass will be capped with a cherry handrail. I will post pictures of another persons work when its done.
I was going to weight these things...but you would not believe how heavy they were.
Thanks all for the comments.

Wow very nice, I like it! Fits the house just right. I kinda like the inside style. I know those glass are heavy, we got a kitchen top that is glass.
