I have a 12 x 12 deck. The front carrying beam is double 2x12s sitting on 4 6×6 posts, 3 feet apart, 4 feet from grade. I want to build a shed roof to span the deck with an 18 inch overhang. Using 2×8 rafters, can I use double 2×6 for a header?

Maybe. There's not enough information to say. What's your local snow load? At least as important a question as that is whether your deck footings are sized to carry the additional load from the roof.
