Help! Does any one recall seeing an article about asphalt shingles failing?
It may have been a sidebar to an article on roofing.I seem to recall something showing correct handling of bundles and some pictures showing the right way to carry.
Thanks

A whole bunch of folks in the Midwest -- Minnesota, Wisconsin, and into Illinois, mainly -- had problems with Certainteed shingles. They curled and cracked inside of 10 years, even the 25-30 year rated ones. If you've got Certainteed I know an attorney in Minneapolis who's putting together a class action.
Argh! Does this apply to the 50 year ones? We just bought Certainteed Weathered Wood for our new house.
Dunno about current versions, or 50 year shingles. The failing shingles I've heard about are all roughly 8-15 years old.(I have to admit that Certainteed stood behind their warranty. Well, hid behind it is a better term. Most folks got piddly -- rarely more than 1/4 the cost of redoing the job, even when the 30 year shingles were less than 10 years old.)

The only Certtainteed shingles I know about failing are the Horizon shingles. They were a 3 tab shingle with bumped up areas that had a different color and a different asphalt. The cracked really bad in the bumped area. I have a number of 3 tab 30 years shingled roofs out there, I hope they last.
There were a couple of other styles besides the Horizon. I think the main distinction was that they were all made in the same plant in Minneapolis.
