ships ladder/ Thomas jefferson

orraspatt | Posted in General Discussion on February 8, 2012 11:05am

Hi I saw a few posts concerning a ships ladder designed by Thomas Jefferson and I found a picture inthe book titled a cottage community. I also have a picture that I will try to scan and post.but I could fax it to anyone that wants to see  it. It is beautiful and I had my Amish neighbor build one for my tiny house!!

That sounds like the same book that gave me the idea to use that design to solve the problem I had with how to provide access to my wine cellar. Its floor was 7 feet below the garage floor, but I had only 7 feet of run for the stairwell, and needed to use 3 feet for a landing at the bottom. That meant I had a rise of 7 feet with only 4 feet of run.

It has worked out great, and I made the stairs as a freestanding unit, including double handrails so that the whole thing can be removed or slid to one end when I need to winch a freezer up or down.

      Come on now you two.........

post a picture-it's possible to imbed in the post now also-give it a try.

      Wine?

Tell me about Veuve Clicquot Brut.

You're shaming me into giving it a try--I admit to being a techno-wimp, but I guess I'll have to quit hiding behind words and give pictures a try.

I'd appreciate a little help, so long as you realize I'm the next thing to completely ignorant in these matters.

I have a Blackberry, the full use of which is way beyond my present knowledge. I know it takes pictures, and I suppose there's a way to get those from there to here, but that's about the extent of my expertise.

        Any suggestions appreciated.

Edit:  That sounds like a champagne or sparkling wine, but you knew that already.

I have had only a few true champagnes, and my experience was that paying 10 times the price doesn't get you 10 times the pleasure, or even twice the pleasure. But then, I am into the big reds, mainly, and I'm always on the lookout for a bargain.

My original intent with our cellar was to stock it with a thousand bottles, but 250 is the most we have ever managed, and usually it's much less. The drain works better than the filler, somehow.

        Veuve?

Well, I get my kicks from champagne. Mere alcohol doesn't thrill me at all.

Veuve is perfectly fine. Had quite a few bottles of it and would drink another. But, I like to be adventurous and find smaller producers. Generally find something that's more interesting at the same price as the big boys.

You looking for something for you? Maybe you are celebrating a milestone like a package arriving?

end quote................pity it couldn't have quote marks or be italicized or something..........................

Ha ha ha........oy vey...............insert some spanish surprise....................nope-no pkg.  I'd done looking.  If it's a bottle of water and it comes sunday morning it'll be froze and broke by spring thaw.  Christmas is over, spring hopes eternal.

Joyce got a bottle from one of the sales guys at her job-she's been really making him look good with the customers by getting the jobs squared away and out the door.  And to his credit-he's been selling jobs well.

So, how bout this stuff here?

Not perfect, not finished, but not the same.

And ps, don't go spreading the word how cool it is-don't want another bar where you can't find a table and all the pretty ones have been hit on already.

          thanks.

Oh, and by the way-69 Dom was THE best!
