I just came from looking at a job. Customer mid 60’s widow with no family.
She had a local construction company that is well known to be very expensive and high pressure, build an addition. This contractor is in Remodelings top 50 and Q.R.’s top 500.
Couldn’t belive my eyes… 2 year old addition and just some of the problems:
Poor grading water in crawlspace.
2 exterior doors when closed you can see light around.
labels left on 2 story windows
Tarp still on old section roof?????
3 closet doors set so bad they won’t budge.
standing water on new oak floors… roof leak she didn’t notice.
The list goes on and on. They have screwed her credit and technically won in court do to the way their 37 page contract was worded.
I love this industry and will never compromise my work… but people like this really makes our jobs just that much harder.
Keep up the good work guys. You are the only hope.

I left a nationally recognized remodeling contractor for quality issues just as you've seen.
It seems to get awards it's not as much about quality as how a project looks in a picture.
Beer was created so carpenters wouldn't rule the world.
My wife's ex partner's husband owns an award winning landscape company thats known from Manhatten to The Hamptons. some of the work they did for me was good...nothing great and the work they did in my backyard is horrendous. Half the shrubs died...they replaced them and they died again within the month...they refuse to come back to deal with it. The lawn they planted in the back is horrble!!!!
I mentioned it to SHG who also knows them and his reply was really good I thought. HE said that some of these big companies just don't have the love!! I suppose I really liked what Scott said because I relate to it..its what I've always told any customers I ever worked for and what I try and portray in my website..its about the love! In everything we do...it should just carry over from your daily life to your work to how you play.
Be well

Creation arises, is sustained for awhile, and then things change. That’s the dance.
